Decomposé ceiling light in an extravagant design – by Atelier Oï


The tube-shaped Decomposé produced by the Italian manufacturer Artemide is a very special ceiling light: it is made of gold painted aluminium and has such a decorative appearance that you can cannot take your eyes away from it even when it is turned off. This is because of the striking design by the three designers from Switzerland: Patrick Reymond, Aurel Aebi and Armand Louis from Atelier Oï created this extraordinary light source.

They take a very experimental approach in their designs. Form does not follow function. Instead, form follows the material, which they deal with in depth.

In the case of Decomposé, whose name is derived from the French word for “to decompose”, it looks as if the structure of the light is gradually disintegrating. The light is not only directed downwards, but also hits the individual metal rings, creating unusual light and shade effects.
