A different appearance when it is switched on and when it is switched off: Discovery LED wall and ceiling light


The Discovery wall and ceiling light looks very different when it is switched on and when it is switched off. When it is switched off, the beholder only sees a thin aluminium ring and a puck-shaped connection box. However, when you turn it on, a kind of white disc suddenly becomes visible within the ring. This PMMA disc is actually transparent and therefore not visible when the light is switched off. When the LEDs, which are arranged as a strip on the inside surface of the aluminium profile, are switched on, the disc serves as an emitting surface for the light and becomes visible.

You can use a separate push button to dim the Discovery wall and ceiling light. However, this requires a five-core connection cable.

The Discovery model was designed by Ernesto Gismondi, the founder of the Italian designer lighting company Artemide, which is based near Milan. In order to produce a ring as thin and light as the profile for the Discovery light, the designer employed specialist knowledge from bicycle manufacturers. The result was a light that is almost invisible.
