Melampo floor lamp with rotating silk satin lampshade


The characteristics of the Melampo floor lamp in terms of its materials and functions reflect the premise of its creator, the designer Adrien Gardère. The internationally-renowned designer’s work is shaped by his in-depth technical knowledge and his understanding of the cultural values of the various nations. In addition to projects such as furniture, lighting and product design, his field of expertise includes the designing of exhibitions and museums.

Products made in his studio can be seen e.g. on permanent exhibition at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris, the Design Museum do Belem in Lisbon, and the Fond National d´art contemporain in France. His studio also designed the Musée du Louvre-Lens in northern France (2012) and the Museum of Islamic Art in Egypt (2010).

Gardère’s design of the Melampo floor lamp, whose silk satin lampshade in a plastic frame can be rotated in three positions – normal, swirled by 30 degrees or standing on its head – was awarded with the Reddot Design Award in 1999. The various lampshade positions enable new lighting solutions to be created.
