Large LED pendant lamp FL/Y by Ferruccio Laviani, 83 cm diameter


Ferruccio Laviani is a long-time designer and art director of the Italian company Kartell, which, in addition to household items and furniture, also produces lamps. All Kartell developments have one thing in common: they are made of plastic in all its shapes and colors. This is also the case with the lampshade of the FL/Y pendant lamp, a model Laviani designed for the Italian company in 2002. This bulbous, round shade is neither sphere nor hemisphere, as the cut surface, and therefore the light emitting surface, is slightly below the center. This has the purpose of focusing the emerging light even better and enhancing the light effect on the surface below.

Plastic in all its variations is the stuff of the products of the Italian designer forge Kartell. Since its founding in 1949, Kartell's designers have been concerned with how to make use of plastic and how best to design and process it so that functionality and aesthetics harmonize perfectly. Well-known designer pieces of the Milan-based company include the children's chair K 1340 and the lemon squeezer KS 1481. Among the lamps, for example, it is the model 4006 by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni from 1959 that serves as a flagship and has a high recognition value.
