Glo-Ball F3 floor lamp with glass sphere for a particularly cosy glow
The glass sphere that forms the lampshade of the Glo-Ball – a floor lamp by FLOS – almost seems to float in the room. Yet it does not actually float; instead, it is delicately balanced on a slender metal rod that ends at the base of the lamp. Just like our own globe, the Glo-Ball’s sphere is slightly flattened at the top and bottom, lending a special touch to the otherwise rather simple and classic design. The texture of the lampshade is responsible for the Glo-Ball F3’s unique lighting effect: the handblown opal glass has been etched, creating a soft light that lends the room a cosy atmosphere.
When developing the Glo-Ball series of lights, the English designer Jasper Morrison sought to achieve maximum light distribution, for which a round glass body – such as that used in the Glo-Ball F3 floor lamp – is ideally suited.
