Ibiza pendant light with a handcrafted bamboo lampshade
The Ibiza pendant light is a product by Good & Mojo, the brand of the Dutch lighting manufacturer IT'S ABOUT ROMI. Its lampshade has been hand-woven in Vietnam and has an interesting shape reminiscent of a large sun hat with a wavy brim. However, the designer drew inspiration for the lampshade’s shape from the island of Ibiza, with its mountains and hills.
Bamboo is one of the label’s core materials and is characterised by its versatility. Bamboo grows very quickly – up to one metre a day – and can be harvested in 3 to 5 years. Once cut, new shoots continually grow back from the roots.
The bamboo lampshades are handcrafted using traditional weaving techniques in small villages in Vietnam. It takes between 3 and 6 hours to make one lampshade – each one is unique.
The pendant light looks particularly decorative when fitted with an LED filament bulb, perhaps even in a globe shape. The open design of the shade, with its many gaps, creates unique effects of light and shadow.
