I Ricchi Poveri Bzzzz – an unusual name for an unusual light. A key hallmark of Ingo Maurer’s lights is the prominence of the bulb, which he repeatedly and deliberately places at the centre due to his special relationship with it. I Ricchi Poveri Bzzzz features a 12 V LED bulb, specially crafted for this light, which sits atop a slender brass rod. Suspended from a delicate wire, a blue dragonfly made of anodised aluminium hovers above the traditional light bulb, appearing as though it might alight on it at any moment. A touch of sophistication that could only come from Ingo Maurer. Dragonflies are often likened to fairy-like creatures and are commonly associated with lightness, dynamism and flexibility.

Nothing can detract from the beauty of this accessory – which, in Maurer’s eyes, is unique – not even a socket. For at the lower end of the lamp base, where the bulb would normally meet the socket, a red wire has been soldered in place; wrapped loosely twice around the brass rod, it leads down to the steel base plate, where it is supplied with power via a contact socket, thus causing the traditional light bulb to glow. I Ricchi Poveri is fitted with an electronic transformer including a slide dimmer and is supplied with low-voltage LED bulbs.
