Patera designer pendant light with fabulous lighting effect

When unlit, the Patera pendant light has a simple, modern look that can be integrated into many interior styles. The lampshade is made up of many small elements, which, due to their shape, resemble the cells of an organism. As soon as the light is switched on, a fascinating light pattern is created, caused by each cell glowing individually. The light is mainly directed downwards, with a smaller portion also shining upwards towards the ceiling, creating a very atmospheric ambience.

Patera is a design by Danish designer Øivind Slaatto, who, in addition to a degree in design, also trained as a conservatory musician. He himself says that his design should be like a piece of music being played; it should be experienced as simple and light.

The inspiration for Patera came from Slaatto's love of nature, where he is particularly interested in the Fibonacci sequence that can also be observed in the plant kingdom, for example in a sunflower.

This mathematical rule – named after Leonardo da Pisa (known as Fibonacci), an important Italian mathematician of the Middle Ages – describes a sequence of natural numbers that begins with two ones and whose subsequent number is always the sum of the two previous numbers. According to this Fibonacci sequence, the leaves and other parts of many plants are arranged in spirals, which means the best luminous efficiency and thus the best growth.

A pendant light that explicitly fits the guiding principle of the lighting company Louis Poulsen, which strives to create an appealing ambience through light in its most ideal form.
