Patera pendant light – spherical shade made of light cells for 360° lighting


The Patera pendant light, whose white spherical shade is made up of many small elements, exudes simple modernity. Its shape is reminiscent of the cells of an organism, and Patera's design is based on the Fibonacci sequence, which is often found in nature. Designer Øivind Slaatto took a very mathematical approach to designing the Patera pendant light, creating a three-dimensional Sudoku puzzle. Inspired by nature and mathematics, Patera is designed to create a pleasant and positive atmosphere for the viewer and bring any room to life. As soon as the light is switched on, a fascinating light pattern emerges, as each cell glows individually. The light is mainly directed downwards, with a smaller portion also shining upwards towards the ceiling, creating a very atmospheric lighting experience.

The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical rule consisting of natural numbers that begins with two ones, with each subsequent number always being the sum of the two previous numbers. According to this Fibonacci sequence, the leaves and other parts of many plants are arranged in a spiral pattern, enabling the best luminous efficiency and thus the best growth.

The Patera series of lights fits in perfectly with the maxim of luminaire manufacturer Louis Poulsen, which was founded in 1874 and pursues the goal of giving form to light through its designs and generating a positive effect on people and spaces. Every design begins and ends with light, which is also achieved by Patera.
