PH 5 designer hanging light by Poul Henningsen


The PH 5 hanging light was designed by Poul Henningsen. With the three lampshade system and the duality between the design and the light, he created a hanging light that lives on after his death through the Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen and is constantly being recreated. PH 5 is an excellent combination of light and shade, form and function and modernity and classicism - a harmonious balance of craftsmanship and innovation.

The PH 5 hanging light was established for the first time in 1958 and was a reaction to the constant change in the shape and size of light bulbs. PH 5 - named after the diameter - allows you to use almost any kind of light bulb. The colour of the top lampshade is the darkest, and each successive lampshade is slightly lighter in colour than the previous one. The latest version in brass and white underlines the lampshade system design and gives the light a new dynamism due to the reflective metal surface. It is important to note that the metal lampshades are untreated and develop an attractive patina over time.

Louis Poulsen is a Danish-based lighting manufacturer that has wanted to shape light with its designs since the company’s foundation in 1874. Due to modern designs and the focus on the light itself, lights are created that produce a positive lighting atmosphere and breathe life into the room.
