Initial situation Palma Sports and Physio

Initial situation

The best prerequisite for a lighting design project is a blank canvas: a new building project. Here, daylight can be optimally integrated directly during planning and the artificial light can be aligned to it. However, this setup is rather rare and it is particularly difficult if the project presents structural challenges. In this project case, our lighting designers set a fitness studio in the right light - in a building from the 19th century. century. The Palma Sports&Physio fitness studio is located in the basement of the half-timbered house at Gutshof 17 in Schauenburg/Hoof. As part of a general modernisation and the relaunch of the company name, the operator Pedro de Palma also wanted to use the lighting more effectively and turned to Lights.co.uk Professionalfor the entire lighting design and procurement. After inspecting the fitness studio and analysing the problems and requirements, concepts were developed that were then tailored to the desired atmosphere. Feeling good in the training area and in physiotherapy was at the top of the list. This had to be paired with the structural challenges.

Project realisation Palma Sports and Physio

Project realisation

The fitness studio has a wooden floor in a warm brown colour. The unplastered reddish stone wall provides a rustic contrast. The interplay of these colours and materials is underlined by the choice of warm white light with a colour temperature of 4,000 Kelvin. This creates a cosy feeling of space - the ideal atmosphere for sporting activity. When selecting the lights for the 200-year-old building, the architecture was incorporated into the lighting design. The reflective surface of the relatively low, white plastered capped ceiling was utilised to create an even distribution of light in the room. As no additional electrical connections could be installed due to the nature of the building, the ceiling was fitted with track systems. These were suspended from the ceiling to preserve the effect of the historic capped ceiling. For this purpose, spotlights were used that are flexible in their beam angle and create a dynamic light image. In addition, the lighting can also be adjusted if the positioning of devices changes. A discreet design was chosen to draw the customer's attention to the fitness equipment.
